ATC Help Make Election History

ATC played a central role in bringing the first ever election party leaders debate to air and won a majority vote from the media covering the event for its organisation.

We provided the infrastructure for the media centre that ensured all UK and international media outlets were able to give the event the coverage its agenda leading position needed.

Project manager Phil Boyes said: “Everyone was raving about it.”

Phil’s team of seven technicians supplied all of the infrastructure for the media centre which included a large projector and screen, lighting, PA and large camera riser for BBC, Sky and ITV.

ATC installed 120 LAN connectors for reporters and all wireless infrastructure and provided live satellite feeds from the link from the studio into breakout rooms for the political parties.   The rooms were also fed with coverage of BBC, BBC News 24 and Sky on individual screens.

Steve Teague, Head of Technical Services at ITV said: “ATC made sure the media centre worked effectively for what was one of the biggest political events of the century.
“Phil Boyes’ team were thorough in their planning, checking and communication. The crew were well disciplined and nothing was too much trouble.”

The live show, hosted by Alistair Stewart, aired at 8.30pm on Thursday 14 April and attracted a peak of nearly 10 million viewers as party leaders Gordon Brown, David Cameron and Nick Clegg battled for votes. At the same time media organisations worked to bring news of and reaction to the event to their viewers.

Phil Boyes said: “We’re immensely proud to have played such a pivotal role in election history. ATC’s team has helped make this an event everyone was talking about”
